Cyrus Musyoka, the youthful and energetic Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, has sent shockwaves through Kitui County’s political landscape by declaring his intent to run for the Kitui South parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections. Known locally as “Sonko,” Musyoka’s announcement has left his potential opponents scrambling, their ambitions now shadowed by his rapid rise in political prominence.
Musyoka’s ascent has been nothing short of meteoric, with his influence extending well beyond his ward. His appeal, especially among the younger generation, has established him as a formidable force in Kitui County politics. This growing influence has not gone unnoticed by his rivals, some of whom have resorted to launching smear campaigns in an attempt to undermine his burgeoning popularity. However, these efforts seem to have done little to diminish his standing among the electorate.
Widely regarded as the “Gen-Z Commander General” of Kitui South, Musyoka has fostered deep connections with both the youth and older voters. His advocacy for youth empowerment and community upliftment has resonated strongly with his constituents.
This was notably evident during the recent Gen-Z-led demonstrations in Mutomo town. These protests were sparked by incumbent MP Rachel Kaki’s controversial vote in favor of the Finance Bill 2024, which many constituents viewed as a betrayal due to the bill’s imposition of additional taxes on an already burdened populace. The outcry was so significant that it forced President William Ruto to reconsider his position, leading to a potential withdrawal of the bill.
In an exclusive interview, Musyoka dismissed the ongoing online propaganda against him as baseless, reiterating his commitment to serve his people with integrity. He called on his rivals to abandon outdated political tactics, emphasizing that character assassination and smear campaigns have no place in modern politics. Musyoka revealed that he has taken legal action against those spreading false information about him, with a defamation case now filed at the Kileleshwa Police Station. The case, he assured, will hold those responsible accountable, as he continues to focus on his work for the people of Ikanga/Kyatune Ward.
Despite the political turbulence, Musyoka remains undeterred, stating that his priority is to deliver on his promises to his constituents. He made it clear that he has no time for “bad games” and is fully committed to his mission of driving positive change in Kitui South. As the 2027 elections approach, Musyoka’s growing influence poses a significant challenge to his competitors, who now face the daunting task of contending with a candidate whose star continues to rise.
