Augustus Kyalo Muli, a prominent leader of the National Liberal Party, has vowed to appeal his removal from the list of nominees for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel. Muli, known for his tumultuous political career, accuses key figures from the Azimio la Umoja coalition of orchestrating his dismissal.
Speaking to the press, Muli expressed his indignation, singling out Azimio coalition principal Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Azimio Secretary General Junet Mohammed as the masterminds behind his exclusion. According to Muli, the decision to drop his name from the IEBC panel was politically motivated and unjust.
Sources close to Muli revealed that he had invested substantial resources, allegedly spending millions to secure delegate votes in his bid to join the IEBC selection panel. However, his efforts faced insurmountable hurdles, including the fact that his party is not a member of the Azimio coalition in the National Assembly. Furthermore, questions regarding his academic qualifications also contributed to his disqualification, leading to his replacement by Ambassador Koki Muli.
Despite the setback, Muli remains determined to pursue his political ambitions, announcing plans to run for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election. Political analysts, however, view his prospects as bleak, citing his party’s limited influence and the recent controversies that have marred his career.
Friends and associates of Muli attribute his misfortunes to his disregard for advice and a tendency to follow his instincts, which they claim has backfired on several occasions. Concerns have also been raised about his mental well-being, with some fearing that the series of political defeats may lead to depression.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on Muli’s next moves and the potential implications for his political future.
