The Ithookwe showground was abuzz with excitement today as thousands attended the first day of the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair. Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani graced the opening day, highlighting the event as a significant opportunity for the people of Kitui to learn various income-generating skills. He urged attendees to take full advantage of the resources and knowledge available.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with various sectors, institutions, organizations, and individuals showcasing their offerings and imparting knowledge on smart agriculture, banking, hospitality, health issues like HIV prevention, and more.
The Kitui County government set up extensive displays to demonstrate its operations, featuring a stand from the executive branch, including the governor’s office and various ministries, detailing their efforts to advance the county. The county assembly also had a tent where personnel explained its functions to the public.
Food enthusiasts were not disappointed, with a wide array of dishes available at reasonable prices. The event featured local favorites such as maize cooked with pigeon peas, nyama choma, mango drinks, honey, and the traditional brew known as kaluvu.
With the show set to continue tomorrow, even larger crowds are expected to flock to the spacious showground to learn and enjoy the festivities. Children’s recreational facilities are plentiful, making it an ideal outing for families, schools, and students. Governor Malombe is scheduled to attend tomorrow’s events, adding to the excitement.
Adults can enjoy a range of soft and hard beverages, with live performances by Kamba benga artists and entertainment provided by various Kamba vernacular radio stations.
The show will run until Saturday, July 27th, promising to leave Kitui residents and visitors informed, educated, and entertained.
