Kitui’s hopeful gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Jimmy Safi, has voiced strong criticism of the recent cabinet changes announced by President William Ruto, calling the moves a “scam” against Kenyans who had demanded a complete overhaul of the cabinet.
Hon. Safi argued that President Ruto’s actions were misleading, as he initially appeared to sack his entire cabinet but then reinstated six of the ousted Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) shortly thereafter. Safi suggested that the delay in naming the rest of the cabinet was a tactic to gauge public reaction.
“Kenyans are fed up with the recycling of underperforming officials,” Safi said. “It’s high time President Ruto embraced new faces who are dedicated to their work and capable of fulfilling the promises made to the people of Kenya.”
Furthermore, Hon. Safi emphasized the need for a more inclusive cabinet that represents the entire nation, not just a select few tribes. He argued that a diverse cabinet would better reflect the country’s demographics and foster a sense of national unity.
The criticism comes at a time when President Ruto’s government is under scrutiny for its handling of various national issues. Many Kenyans have expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some cabinet members, calling for new appointments that can drive progress and development across the country.
