Twelve youths are currently in police custody following an attempt to attack Bondo Police Station during failed anti-government protests on Thursday.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that the youths began gathering in Bondo town around noon and tried to barricade the roads. At approximately 2 p.m., a small group of protesters initiated an attack on the police station by hurling stones continuously.
Commander Kimaiyo led an enhanced anti-riot team in response to the assault. The team successfully drove the violent protesters out of the town. During the operation, 12 suspects were apprehended for attacking the station with stones and other projectiles.
The county police chief stated that the anti-riot team remained vigilant, continuing to pacify the town and disperse remaining pockets of violent protesters until 9:30 p.m., when the operation concluded.
Kimaiyo confirmed that no injuries were reported on either side during the incident. The arrested youths are scheduled to be arraigned in court on Friday.
