Two Families of Protest Victims Receive Ksh1 Million Each, Hanifa Announces
Honey Farsafi, also known as Hanifa, has disbursed Ksh3 million raised by Kenyans to support the families affected by the recent anti-Finance Bill protests. The funds were intended to assist the families of two Kenyans who tragically lost their lives during the demonstrations.
In a statement released on Thursday, Hanifa confirmed that each of the families of the deceased protesters will receive Ksh1 million. The remaining Ksh1 million, she specified, will be allocated to support an injured protester.
Hanifa further explained, “The remainder will be directed to Ian’s family, who sustained serious injuries, having been shot three times in the back and rendered unable to walk again.” She noted that due to banking restrictions, Ian’s family would receive their allocation the following day, after settling hospital bills.
The initiative, facilitated through the M-Change portal, garnered significant support from 7,876 contributors, raising a total of Ksh3,052,989. Originally aiming for Ksh2 million, the campaign exceeded expectations by Ksh1.05 million. A financial breakdown shared by Hanifa indicated that Ksh127,494 was deducted as a platform fee.
The initiative underscores the community’s solidarity and support for those affected by the tragic events surrounding the protests, reflecting a broader sentiment of communal empathy and advocacy for justice.
