A comprehensive security operation has been launched across Nairobi in anticipation of Thursday’s youth-led protests, culminating in threats to march on State House. The demonstrators, expressing deep-seated grievances against President William Ruto’s administration, have pledged to escalate their week-long protest with a direct approach to the presidential residence.
Following the tumultuous scenes on Tuesday, where protestors breached Parliament during demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024, security forces are on high alert to prevent any unauthorized access to State House. Elite units have cordoned off all roads leading to the presidential compound, redirecting traffic to alternative routes to ensure containment.
Heavily armed officers have been strategically stationed in the vicinity, strictly prohibiting access to any entrances leading towards State House. Military equipment has further fortified these security measures, reinforcing barricades in the surrounding areas.
Despite President William Ruto’s decision to withdraw the contentious bill in response to public outcry, protestors remain resolute in their demonstrations, underscoring their lack of confidence in the current administration.
The prospect of protestors marching on State House has sparked varied reactions, with concerns over potential fatalities being voiced as a deterrent against what some characterize as treasonous behavior.
