President William Ruto has extended his condolences following the tragic passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on Sunday, May 19. In a statement released on X, Ruto conveyed his sympathy and solidarity with the people of Iran during this difficult period. Reflecting on Raisi’s legacy, Ruto described him as a resolute leader and devoted public servant, emphasizing his notable contributions to Iran’s global stature. Ruto highlighted the warm relations between Kenya and Iran, underscoring Raisi’s historic visit to Kenya in July 2023, the first by an Iranian President to Africa. “As we mourn with the Iranian people, we pray for Allah’s solace and compassion,” Ruto remarked. The helicopter carrying Raisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials, crashed in a mountainous region of north-western Iran amid adverse weather conditions. Following an extensive search, the wreckage was discovered on Monday morning amidst dense fog and snow.
