Mukurweini Member of Parliament, John Kaguchia, dismissed rumors of discontent within the Mt. Kenya region towards President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, asserting that the region will maintain its presence in government until 2032. Kaguchia emphasized the region’s unity with Ruto, affirming support for his potential re-election bid in 2027.
Addressing concerns raised during what has been dubbed as Limuru III meeting, where some leaders criticized Ruto’s administration for neglecting the Mt. Kenya region, Kaguchia reiterated the commitment of Mt. Kenya leaders to remain in government. The meeting led to the formation of the Haki Coalition, aiming to advocate for the region’s interests and hold Ruto’s administration accountable.
Despite opposition from some leaders, aligned with Ruto, who downplayed the significance of the Limuru III meeting, tensions within the Mt. Kenya region persist. Speculations of a fallout between Ruto and his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, have emerged, with Gachagua’s week-long absence from key state functions sparking rumors.
Gachagua’s reemergence in Nyeri, followed by his appearance during Ruto’s state visit to the US, prompted statements from allies like Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who expressed solidarity with Gachagua. Kahiga denounced attempts to sow discord between Ruto and Gachagua, pledging unwavering support for the Deputy President amidst brewing tensions.
