In a bold move to empower the youth of Kitui West, Dr. Vincent Munyoki, a prominent youth leader and founder of the Vincent Munyoki Foundation, has pledged to provide interest-free loans to young entrepreneurs in the constituency. This initiative, which operates under the Kitui Youth Parliament CBO, aims to help the youth access 30% of government procurement tenders reserved for them—an opportunity often left untapped at the local level.
Dr. Munyoki’s commitment came in response to concerns raised by unemployed youths in Kitui West Constituency , who criticized the local MP’s office for failing to actively engage and motivate the youth to pursue these government opportunities. Acknowledging this gap, Dr. Munyoki vowed to take the lead in ensuring that the youth in Kitui West not only become aware of these tenders but also benefit from them.
This initiative is a continuation of Dr. Munyoki’s efforts earlier this year when he gathered Kitui West students from various universities and colleges to establish the Kitui Youth Parliament CBO. The organization addresses local youth challenges, supports business ventures, and explores digital job opportunities. The latest promise of interest-free loans is a testament to Dr. Munyoki’s unwavering commitment to the youth.
Kitui west Youth lauded Dr. Munyoki’s generosity and vision, contrasting it with the inaction of the region’s wealthier elites, who have largely hoarded their resources. They praised Dr. Munyoki for using his own resources to uplift the community, empower the youth, and bring new hope to Kitui West.
Despite the government’s policy to reserve a portion of procurement opportunities for marginalized groups, including youth, the impact has been minimal. Of the KSh 63 billion allocated for these tenders, only KSh 3 billion has been utilized, with only 6,000 out of 30,000 registered youth entities benefiting. Dr. Munyoki’s initiative represents a significant push to bridge this gap and ensure that Kitui West’s youth have the financial support they need to seize these opportunities and uplift their lives.
