The ongoing efforts to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kitui County have gained momentum as the sensitization workshop on the UHC Acts of 2023 enters its second day in Mutomo, Kitui South Sub-County.
The forum, orchestrated by the Council of Governors (CoG) in partnership with the Kitui Health Ministry and other stakeholders, aims to equip participants with a deeper understanding of the recently enacted UHC legislation. The laws under review include the Facility Improvement Financing (FIF) Act 2023, the Primary Health Care Act 2023, the Social Health Act 2023, and the Digital Health Act 2023.
These legislative frameworks are crucial to the government’s mission of achieving universal health coverage, ensuring that quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare becomes a reality for all Kenyans.
The workshop features expert facilitation by a team from the CoG, led by Dr. Mutakha Kangu, a specialist in devolution and intergovernmental relations, and Robert Rapando, an authority in health financing. Their insights are expected to significantly enhance the capacity of Kitui’s health sector leaders in implementing these transformative health policies.
The workshop, a three-day initiative, is attended by key county leadership, including Governor Dr. Julius Malombe (EGH) and his Deputy, Augustine Kanani. They are joined by County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), the Chief of Staff, Chief Officers, and Advisors to the Governor. Also present are members of the County Assembly’s Health Committee and the County Health Management Team.
