Dr. Vincent Munyoki, founder of the Vincent Munyoki Foundation, joined the congregation at Kabati Parish Church to honor over 200 elderly residents during a special service dedicated to celebrating their lives. Each senior received a modern blanket to help them stay warm during the chilly July weather.
Dr. Munyoki, who has been an advocate for empowering all groups within Kabati Parish and the wider Kitui West constituency, emphasized the importance of honoring our elderly. “Celebrating our grannies and grandpas while they are still with us is crucial. It’s the only way to receive their blessings and those from God,” he stated.
He also called on the government to prioritize the well-being of the elderly by launching educational campaigns for caregivers and citizens about proper diet and physical exercise for seniors. Dr. Munyoki urged the national government to allocate funds to ensure the elderly have health insurance, reducing mortality rates and inspiring future generations on how to live longer, healthier lives. He advocated for county governments to establish specialized departments equipped with modern, accessible vehicles to transport the elderly comfortably to health facilities.
Kabati Parish’s Father Muthamba also addressed the gathering, urging families to provide food, shelter, and prayer for their elderly members. He highlighted the challenges posed by delays in disbursing the government’s elderly fund, which forces many seniors to endure long waits in major towns. He called for more convenient methods of fund distribution, such as direct transfers to mobile phones, to safeguard the health and well-being of the elderly.
This community event not only provided physical warmth through the donated blankets but also underscored the need for collective efforts in supporting and celebrating the elderly.
