In a vibrant ceremony held at Kauwi Primary School grounds in Kabati, Kitui West Constituency, philanthropist Dr. Vincent Munyoki, founder of the Vincent Munyoki Foundation, was installed as the patron of the Kitui West Scouting Association.
The event, attended by scouts from all primary and secondary schools in Kitui West, was presided over by Kitui County Commissioner of Scouts, Madam Winnie Ndolo. While installing Dr. Munyoki, Madam Ndolo praised him as an iconic figure who has significantly empowered society through initiatives targeting youth, women, and the less privileged. She highlighted Dr. Munyoki’s long-standing support for the Kitui County scouts and other institutions, including his donations of essential items such as sanitary pads for girls and innerwear for boys. Ndolo emphasized that Dr. Munyoki’s generosity and kindness are qualities that should be emulated by the scouts, aligning perfectly with the vision of the Kenya Scouting Association. Having Dr. Munyoki on board is a great blessing to the association, she added.
Addressing the attendees after his installation, Dr. Munyoki expressed his gratitude for the honor and promised to support the association, pledging to seek additional backing from other stakeholders.
Dr. Munyoki called on the Kitui County government to include the Kitui County Scouting Association in its revenue allocation, underscoring the association’s importance to the county’s welfare, particularly in activities such as tree planting, first aid training, and community engagement.
On a national level, Dr. Munyoki urged the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) to collaborate with scouts in combating drug and substance abuse. He noted that the association comprises energetic and vibrant young people capable of spreading the message of abstinence from drugs across Kenya, positively influencing youth behavior and contributing to crime reduction in the country.
