Milimani Court Releases 187 Protesters, Including 18 Minors, Amid Nairobi Protests
Late Wednesday night, the Milimani Court convened to hear the case of 187 individuals, including 18 minors, charged following Tuesday’s protests in Nairobi.
Senior Principal Magistrate Wandia Nyamu ordered the immediate release of the 18 minors on personal bonds of Ksh 10,000, to be held by their parents or guardians. The Magistrate noted that the minors’ rights had been infringed upon as they were detained in the same cells as adults, some had sustained injuries that had not been treated, and they had not been fed during their time in custody.
Additionally, Magistrate Nyamu directed that the adult detainees be released by 10 a.m. today on personal bonds of Ksh 50,000, pending the recording of their personal details by the Investigating Officers.
