Veteran journalist Mutegi Njau passed away peacefully on the evening of June 27, 2024, at around 7 pm, according to his family.
In a heartfelt statement, his family described Mutegi as a remarkable man known for his generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to journalism, which left a profound impact on all who knew him. Throughout his illustrious career spanning decades, Mutegi made significant contributions to prominent media organizations, including Royal Media Services. He was widely recognized as a resident analyst on Citizen TV’s ‘Cheche’ power breakfast show.
Mutegi’s family mourned his loss, remembering him as the cornerstone of their family and a highly esteemed figure in the community. Plans for his funeral are currently underway, with details expected to be announced in the coming days.
Renowned for mentoring numerous journalists over the years, Mutegi was celebrated for his meticulous attention to detail and expertise in the field. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
Former co-host David Makali shared his grief on social media, honoring Mutegi as a senior colleague and mentor whose memory will endure among those he inspired and guided.
Mutegi Njau’s journalistic journey began in 1979, during the era of Kenya’s founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. His passion for journalism remained steadfast throughout his career, leaving an indelible mark on the profession and the lives he touched.
