On Thursday at approximately 4 p.m., a Toyota Landcruiser carrying five police officers and four teachers experienced a tire burst along Banisa-Guba road in Mandera, resulting in all nine occupants sustaining injuries.
According to police reports, the vehicle hit a pothole in the Armano area, causing two tires to burst. The driver lost control, and the vehicle veered off the road, landing in a ditch. The injured passengers included officers from the Choroqo Border Patrol Unit camp and teachers from Choroqo Primary School, Qotqot Primary, and Guba Primary School. The teachers had hitched a ride with the police vehicle at the time of the incident.
All injured parties were taken to Banisa Subcounty Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
In a separate incident along the Elwak-Mandera Road, a collision between two motorcycles left three individuals injured. According to witnesses, one motorcycle, carrying a rider and two pillion passengers, was traveling from Wargadud to Elwak when the collision occurred. The other motorcyclist fled the scene, and police are actively searching for him.
In Tarbaj, Wajir, another accident involving a government vehicle occurred when a Landcruiser struck a pothole on the Tarbaj-Wajir road. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to land in a ditch. Four people, including the driver, were seriously injured and were rushed to the hospital.
Police are investigating all incidents. They have noted that recent heavy rains have left many local roads in poor condition, contributing to the accidents.
